"The Lord appeared to us in the past saying: 'I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, with lovingkindness, I have drawn you. Again, I will build you, and you shall be rebuilt, O virgin Israel!" - Jeremiah 31:3
Happy Valentine's! This season is all about love and hearts, but before you stop reading, I want us to dive deeper into God's love this holiday season.
Here are 7 truths about God's love:
1. God's love is not conditional based on our "goodness" but on His faithfulness.
"The Lord did not set His love on you nor chose you because you were more in number than any other peoples; but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the land of Pharaoh king of Egypt." Deuteronomy 7:7-8
2. True Love ONLY comes from God - not from man.
"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:7-8
3. We can't love except through God's redeeming power (transformation through salvation).
"We love because He first loved us." 1 John 4:19
4. Love is NOT a feeling - it is a choice and a Being.
"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; It does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails."
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
5. God showed His Love for the World by sending His Son Jesus to die for our sins.
"In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him." 1 John 4:9
6. God's love is safe and can be trusted.
"The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing." Zephaniah 3:16
7. God loves the foreigners, vulnerable, lost, & needy.
"He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing. So you too must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt." Deuteronomy 10:18-19
