7 Ways to Grow Your Creativity 🪴

"Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." - 1 Corinthians 10:31

Being creative all the time can be difficult and cause burnout. Even the Creator of the universe rested for one day and He was the founder of all things creativity. Whether you are a mom, business owner, content creator, graphic designer or just work in a creative field, having enough fuel to drive your creative juices helps grow your skills and impact those you're trying to reach.

Knowing how to keep your creativity burning and growing is key! Here are 7 ways to grow your creativity:

1. Invite God into your projects

We often want to do things FOR God but sometimes forget that partnering WITH His Holy Spirit is key to remaining steadfast in the tasks and duties He's called us to do.

How to invite God into your projects?

  1. Allowing Him to help and guide you as you work on your creative duty

  2. Being constant in prayer and willing to change and adjust as He leads

  3. Starting with prayer before working on a project

2. Remain Constant

Consistency is key and the only way you can grow your skills is to KEEP PRACTICING them.

How to remain constant?

  1. Set a consistent time (daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly) to work on your project

  2. Remember your why (why'd you start, what drove you to begin?)

  3. Pray in times of struggle to push through even when motivation is lacking

  4. Choose discipline and habits over motivated pleasure

  5. Remind yourself of the vision God has given you

3. Be a student who loves to learn

Education is a great tool to enhance your creative skills! You don't have to go to a fancy school, university, or even college to grow your skills, but you do need to have the perspective that the fastest way to hone on your skills is often allowing yourself to learn.

How to be a student?

  1. Be teachable - allow others to correct, critique, and educate you on the subject.

  2. Never settle - be content and settled are two different things. You must be content in your current season, but set goals and dream of where you want to be 10 to 15 years from now.

  3. Understand your weaknesses and strengths and find content that builds on them.

4. Be attentive to trends in culture

Trends tell us a lot about what people are looking for and like. We can receive inspiration or ideas when we look at others who have similar styles. They show us what people are interested in.

How to be attentive to trends in culture?

  1. Stay updated with what's happening online, in the news, and businesses

  2. Collect/Take pictures of items that speak to you and why they do

5. Search other successful businesses/organizations/people and what they're doing better and differently than you

Research is essential to understanding how we can get from point A to point B in a project.

How to search other successful organizations?

  1. Stay updated with what's happening online, in the news, and businesses

  2. Collect/Take pictures of items that speak to you and why they do

6. Create a MOOD Board of your vision

A mood board is just a collage of pictures used to create a certain aesthetic, look, etc.

This is a GREAT way to spark inspiration and motivation throughout your project.

How to create a mood board of your vision?

  1. Write down what vision you and the Lord have chosen (long-term)

  2. Collect pictures on a word document (or Canva) that align with the theme/style you're trying to accomplish

  3. Use this board as a motivator as you work on your creative project

7. Take a Break

Rest is essential to not burning out. When we rest, we restore our bodies and brains so that they can produce more ideas.

How to take a break?

  1. Shut your computer off (no distractions)

  2. Spend the day seeking God and being poured into rather than out

  3. Put your phone on do not disturb
