"This devotional helps us to understand God's heart with regard to money,
so that we can better glorify Him with our resources."
everal years ago, Carley took my personal finance class at Southern Arkansas University. I knew immediately she was wise beyond her years. She wanted to learn more than simply how to improve her own financial life; she had a strong calling to improve the financial lives of others. Out of this calling came one of her first practical developments, founding the Mulerider $ense financial literacy program on the SAU campus, for which I served as the faculty sponsor. It was
also during this time that I began meeting with Carley on a
weekly basis. What started as a mentorship soon turned into a
strong friendship. We had many conversations about faith and
money.
I see echoes of those conversations in this devotional, coupled
with much wisdom that Carley has gained through her own
prayer life. When asked to write this foreword, I reflected on the
scripture’s many teachings about money. Money, and debt, are
referenced many times in the Old and New Testaments. Jesus
taught often in parables that relate to money and made clear
that we cannot serve both God and money. This devotional helps
us to understand God’s heart with regard to money, so that we
can better glorify Him with our resources.
In a world often consumed with accumulation, there is joy and
blessing to be found in giving – whether it be through financial
resources or our gifts of time. Ecclesiastes tells us that our time
on Earth is just a vapor. To fulfill what Christ has called us to do
in our short time here, it is important that we become intentional
in all areas of our Christian walk. That includes our finances!
Without knowing what the Bible tells us about our money, it is easy to be consumed with money’s worldly promises. Recognizing that all we have is already His is such an important first step toward honoring the Lord with our blessings.
Carley has inspired many with her newly formed podcast A Whole Lotta Jesus. Be sure to check it out as well if you haven’t already. Watching Carley grow in spiritual maturity has been such a blessing to me, and I look forward to continuing to see how the Lord uses her talents in furthering the Gospel.
Remember, we are blessed to be a blessing!
